Central Los Angeles : Volunteers Sought to Paint MTA Mural

Share

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is looking for volunteers to decorate the site of a future Red Line subway station at Sunset Boulevard and Vermont Avenue.

A community workshop will be held Sunday at Barnsdall Art Park in Hollywood, where the public can paint panels to be hung along 300 feet of Sunset and Vermont, said Gayle Gale, an artist who was commissioned by the MTA for the project.

“I’ve drawn the outline of a big train” on several panels, Gale said, “and people will lie down and trace themselves like they are riding that train.”

The panels are expected to remain on display around the construction site until the subway station is completed, which Gale said will take at least three years.

The workshop is free and will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Junior Art Center in the park, at 4814 Hollywood Blvd.
