A hazardous-materials team responded early Friday morning to a minor toxic spill at an electronics company, a mishap that sent two of the company’s employees to the hospital briefly.

Brea firefighters and the Anaheim Fire Department’s hazardous-materials team responded to Electronic Precision Specialties Inc. at 541 W. Mercury Lane after employees arriving shortly after 7 a.m. discovered a drum leaking a solution of potassium cyanide.

The chemical is used for the silver plating of electronic components, said Hank Brown, the company’s vice president.

The cleanup effort by firefighters and workers took about two hours, Brea Fire Capt. John Breaux said.

Two employees were taken to Brea Community Hospital for observation but showed no ill effects and were released by late morning, Breaux said.
