A man who had told family members that his son had moved to Alaska in search of work was charged with the teenager’s death in Illinois 32 years ago. John E. Masters, 74, who has spent the last decade living in Carrollton, Ga., has given various explanations over the years regarding the whereabouts of his son, Butch. Police determined the 16-year-old boy died in 1964. His skeleton was found in 1989 in a shallow grave behind a garage apartment in Illinois where Masters once lived. Masters has been charged with involuntary manslaughter. He was being held in the Carroll County Jail on $100,000 bond and has waived extradition to McHenry County, Ill.
