Meeting to Address Area’s Police Service
Officials from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and the California Highway Patrol will hold a town meeting Wednesday for Oak Park residents who are concerned about a perceived lack of law enforcement in the small, unincorporated area.
Residents have long sought a greater police presence in the area, which is served by two sheriff’s patrol cars that split their time between Oak Park and Bell Canyon, another unincorporated area.
Technically, traffic violations in the tiny community are the responsibility of California Highway Patrol officers, but Oak Park residents complain that they rarely see them.
About 60 angry residents, who attended an Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council meeting last month to protest a county plan to raise some speed limits, said the area has little to no enforcement of traffic laws.
The purpose of the meeting, which will take place at 7 p.m. at Medea Creek Middle School, is to allow residents to express their concerns directly to law enforcement officials. Speakers will include Ventura County Supervisor Frank Schillo, Sheriff’s Cmdr. Bruce McDowell, CHP Capt. Mike Porrazzo, and members of the community’s advisory council.
