NURSING STUDENTS: Nurses in Ventura County schools perform a variety of tasks, from giving hugs to dressing wounds (B1). And while the job has changed dramatically over the decades that Simi Valley nurse Caroline Ferber has been in the business, her satisfaction has only grown. . . . Said Ferber, a nurse at Hillside Junior High: “One of the neatest things is to see them come in as little seventh-graders, so unsure of themselves, and walk out of here a few years later on their way to adulthood.”

PERKS OF POWER: Assemblyman Nao Takasugi’s office space has grown along with his new responsibilities as chairman of the nine-member Revenue and Taxation Committee. The Oxnard Republican has doubled the size of his office and his staff (to six) since taking over the committee last month. . . . Takasugi, whose capital-gains bill just moved from the Assembly to the state Senate, hopes to hold informational hearings on taxation throughout the state this year.

FLYING HIGH: Actress Doreen Lacy has a growing audience, thanks to her new job as director of the Gull Wings Children’s Museum. The Oxnard museum, featuring hands-on exhibits aimed at 2- to 12-year-olds, gets about 20,000 visitors a year. . . . “There’s a lot of stuff to do” to improve the museum, Lacy said, “but there’s such a wonderful base of what they’ve started here. The kids love to interact.” . . . Lacy’s already planning special Saturday events. Next month: “The Wonder of Animals.”

PUNT ON THIS QUESTION: Will the Oakland Raiders be training in Oxnard again this year? Who knows? Brian Duskin, manager of Oxnard’s Radisson Suite Hotel, says he’d love to have the team back. But the gridders, who deserted Los Angeles to head north, seem to be aiming for a closer training site: Duskin said he’s heard the team is looking in Rohnert Park and Morgan Hill in Northern California. . . . Calls to the Raiders didn’t help. Everyone reached said no decision had been made, then asked not to be identified.
