FOR SALE: The owners of Oxnard-based KADY-TV are looking to sell the financially troubled station as quickly as possible. (B1) . . . Hounded by creditors, owners John and Erica Huddy got a reprieve Monday when a judge ruled against placing the station in receivership. Erica told the judge that the couple has every intention of selling the station, but would like to do so under their terms. “We have all our money invested in that station, our hard work and our blood.”

REMEMBERING JOEL: Eleven-year-old Joel Burchfield of Moorpark was fondly remembered Monday by hundreds of friends and family members. (B1) . . . Joel accidentally drowned Wednesday in a rain-swollen creek in Moorpark. . . . Said Mike Hiserman, who helped coach Joel’s basketball team and was among the mourners who attended the service: “Joel would want us to do whatever he did when he found himself in a bad situation; he would want us to gather together and do the best we can.”

WASTE NOT: E.J. Harrison & Sons, Ventura County’s largest trash hauler, has teamed up with Target Stores for an ambitious recycling program. (D7C) . . Harrison has a goal of recycling 75% or more of materials discarded from the construction of a new Target in Camarillo. . . . Elliot Schindel, above, a representative for the retailer, said he has never seen such an extensive recycling program in his 40 years in construction work. “I think it’s fantastic,” he said. “I don’t know why we didn’t do this sooner.”

TROUBLE-SHOOTER: Former Ventura College student Josh Addison was one of six people selected nationwide to compete in an automotive trouble-shooting contest in Las Vegas beginning this weekend. . . . Participants will be tested on everything from engine rebuilding to emissions testing. The winner will represent the U.S. in an international competition to be held in Switzerland next year. . . . Said Addison, 21: “The hardest part is the preparation.”
