Valleywide : Bernson Proposes Parking Ticket Office

Share

City Councilman Hal Bernson proposed this week that the city fund a parking ticket hearing office in the San Fernando Valley.

On Wednesday, Bernson introduced a motion that would set aside $200,000 to open an office where Valley residents could contest parking tickets. Currently, residents must drive to a hearing office Downtown or in West Los Angeles.

The city Department of Transportation proposed opening a Valley hearing office in response to Mayor Richard Riordan’s call for such offices to be within a 15-mile radius of 90% of the city’s population.

The hearing office would open by April 1. Bernson’s proposal is expected to be considered by the City Council on Wednesday.

If the motion is adopted, it will be “our Valentine’s Day present to the Valley,” quipped Francine Oschin, spokeswoman for Bernson. “People won’t have to drive to West L.A. anymore, and risk getting more tickets.”
