Misuse of 911 Service

Regarding “Police Implore the Public Not to Misuse 911 System,” Jan. 30: Perhaps there should be fines issued to those who insist on misusing the system for ridiculous things such as directions to Disneyland or traffic updates. I shudder to think my life or the life of a loved one is put on hold for such inconsiderate fools. Issuing citations would be a sure way of stopping the abuse.

The best way to end non-emergency 911 calls is to bill the callers $50. If you have a real emergency, the 911 operator could clear it with a DR number (LAPD) or URN number (L.A. County Sheriffs) and the caller would not be billed. Too many lives are on the line for silly people not to be held accountable for their actions. We would be amazed how fast those calls would stop.
