Flannigan, Booth Have Big Days as Cypress Sweeps Two Games

Bryan Flannigan had a double, a home run and two runs scored to help Cypress defeat Redwood City Canada, 5-3, Saturday in the Mitsubishi Baseball Classic at Cypress College. Flannigan also had three hits and three RBIs in the Chargers’ earlier 16-1 victory over South Mountain (Ariz.).

Jeremy Booth had five hits and four RBIs in two games for the Chargers (8-1), who won all four games of the round-robin tournament.

In other tournament games:

Golden West 5, Antelope Valley 0--Josh La Rocca pitched a three-hit shutout, striking out 13 and walking none for Golden West. John Matlock went two for four with three runs batted in for the Rustlers.

Later Saturday, Golden West (4-2) defeated Mt. San Jacinto, 9-4. Mike Tyler was three for four with two doubles and two runs scored.

Saddleback 6, Antelope Valley 5--Jon Lauderdale had two hits, three RBIs and drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth for host Saddleback (4-1).

In an earlier game, Paul Day had four hits, including two doubles, and drove in four runs as Saddleback defeated Mt. San Jacinto, 18-7.

In the Glendale (Ariz.) tournament:

Fullerton wins twice--Scott Parsonage pitched a five-hit shutout in Fullerton’s 4-0 victory over Glendale.

Andy Tellez doubled and hit a home run in the second game, a 10-5 victory over Mesa (Ariz.). The home run was the first of the season. He had 14 as a freshman.

In the Southwestern tournament:

Orange Coast wins twice--Geoff Wilson had a run-scoring triple then scored on Forrest Long’s sacrifice fly as Orange Coast scored two runs in the ninth to break a 4-4 tie in a 6-4 victory over host Southwestern.

The Pirates (5-0) came back to beat Grossmont, 4-2, in the second game. Eric Turner gave up two runs on six hits and struck out four for the victory. The Pirates stole 10 bases in the second game.

In the Long Beach softball tournament:

Fullerton 3, Long Beach City 2--Fullerton rallied with three runs in the sixth inning to advance to today’s tournament final. Facing a time-limit deadline, Fullerton took the lead on Kelly Wilkerson’s two-run single to center.
