Obituaries : Arnold Johnson; Retired Carpet Installer

Arnold Johnson, a retired carpet installer and veteran of World War II, died Saturday after a brief illness. The Simi Valley resident was 77.

Johnson was born in Raymond, S.D., and worked several jobs before the war. He married his wife of 54 years, Albernice Johnson, in 1941 before joining the Navy and shipping off for duty in Australia and the Philippines.

After the war, Johnson worked first in Iowa, then moved to California. He landed a job installing carpets for a floor-covering firm in Beverly Hills and retired in 1973 after 27 years in the business.

Johnson spent his retirement biking, fishing and traveling with his wife, said his son-in-law, Tom Niemann of Thousand Oaks.

Survivors include Albernice Johnson, daughter Jeri Niemann, two grandchildren and one great-grandson.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Mortuary in Westlake Village.
