Obituaries : C’Ann Scott; Ventura Teacher

C’Ann Scott, a longtime Ventura County resident and a teacher at Elmhurst Elementary School in Ventura, died Monday after a brief illness. She was 54.

Scott, who taught for 27 years in the Ventura Unified School District, until recently taught first- and second-graders at Elmhurst. She died of pneumonia and complications from a blood clot, said her husband, Mark Scott of Ojai.

A native of Pueblo, Colo., Scott moved to Ventura in 1968 and Ojai in 1990. Before going to Elmhurst in 1988, she taught at Cabrillo and De Anza middle schools.

“She was a very caring teacher who was willing to do whatever she could to help her students,” Elmhurst Principal Karen Senesac said. “She would always volunteer for all kinds of committees and would always help new teachers.”

When not teaching, Scott enjoyed doing artwork, such as pottery, needlepoint, interior decorating and arranging dried flowers, her husband said.

In addition to her husband, Scott is survived by three daughters, Pam Tyler of Archer, Fla., and Lisa Cox and Kim Feavel of Ventura; her parents, Frank and AveNelle Sluder of Pueblo, and two brothers, David Sluder of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Scott Sluder of Pueblo.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura.

In lieu of flowers, books may be given in Scott’s name to Elmhurst Elementary School.
