Teacher Suspended in Sex Allegation
A Fillmore High School science and math teacher arrested on suspicion of having sex with a minor student remained suspended with pay Thursday while the district attorney’s office decided whether to press charges, authorities said.
Daniel Ramirez, 42, of Oxnard, was arrested on campus a week ago by Ventura County sheriff’s deputies and released soon after, deputies said. His arraignment is scheduled for March 8.
Investigators suspect that Ramirez had sexual relations with a 17-year-old girl last summer. The teenager is now an 18-year-old Fillmore High School senior.
If charges are filed, Ramirez will remain suspended without pay, Fillmore Unified School District Supt. Mario V. Contini said.
“It’s a horrible situation,” Contini added. “We’re in the business of educating kids. This kind of charge doesn’t fit that goal.”
