Wishes of Voters Going Ignored

Share

* Re: “Controversial Judge Now Setting the Bench Mark,” Jan. 28.

We are not rocket scientists, but we think we know why the number of voters is declining year after year and why taxes go up and up, year after year.

We vote in the death penalty and our wishes are ignored. We vote in Proposition 183 and our wishes are ignored. People with self-respect, self-worth and intelligence say the hell with it, why waste our time voting.

In this article, we find out about a municipal judge, John J. Hunter, who retired 3 1/2 years ago, after being rejected by the voters for a Superior Court position, by a margin of 2 to 1. Since retirement, Judge Hunter has worked daily, as a temporary Superior Court judge, at $397 per day.

We question this outrageous, flagrant disrespect for the voters’ choice in 1992. This is a prime example of what government is doing for us.

Our question is: What gives government the right to ignore the Constitution and the voters’ choice as given in the Constitution?
