Skateboard Exhibit Opening at Museum
Downhill skate cars, downhill stand-up boards, slalom boards, vertical boards and motorized boards are among skateboards featured in an exhibit opening today at the International Surfing Museum.
“The Evolution of the Skateboard” opens at 10 a.m. at the museum, 411 Olive St.
Skateboarding has long been part of Surf City’s culture and way of life, organizers said.
The exhibit showcases equipment and memorabilia as it traces the sport’s history from the 1950s to its heyday in the ‘70s up to the present.
An antique and classic skateboard swap meet will also be featured, and surf band Green Room will perform from 3 to 5 p.m.
