Bruins Just Don’t Get Why They Were Booed

Share

Judging by the comments of UCLA Coach Jim Harrick and other Bruin starters [Feb. 15], they still haven’t gotten the message as to why the starters were booed during the Oregon State game. For their information, it was not just a few fans, nor was it just the alumni, nor was it just from the here-today-gone-tomorrow fans. The booing came from a great many present, including many in the student body.

It was not because the fans expected a “great effort” as Coach Harrick thinks. It was because there was little team effort from the starters. There was too much hot-dogging and too many stupid mistakes that exasperated the crowd, who had watched this in the Louisville and Oregon games.

The fans would rather see the second team giving its all in a team effort than watch a bunch of hot dogs playing like they were in the NBA. The message to the starters was (and is): Give us all you can as a team and we are behind you, win or lose.

If this were a fair world, Tyus Edney would be receiving a monthly check from Bruin Coach Jim Harrick for his game-winning shot against Missouri in last year’s NCAA tournament, which provided Harrick with a fat raise and a contract extension, both undeserved.
