Clean Politics and Term Limits

Share

If ever there were an argument against term limits, it’s contained in “Lawmakers Accused of Rigging Endorsement,” Jan. 17. The honor with which Assemblyman [Richard] Katz served his district for so long seems to be disappearing. I am a lifelong Democrat and I am appalled that outsiders could sway my party, in my neighborhood to endorse a puppet candidate.

The ethnicity of my neighborhood has changed in the past decade, it’s true. Despite language and cultural differences, we share recipes and comfort in times of crisis. We are bound together by our concerns about jobs, crime and education.

Latino lawmakers’ attempts to “play the race card” in this election are a slap in the face of my community. We should all be disgusted--because we will soon be divided--by such ruthless political tactics.
