One of the pleasures of the city is its repository of oddball signs. Among the more captivating are several larger-than-life figures that could have been crafted by Claes Oldenburg: a milk carton, a light bulb, golf balls, a couple of cows, a truck. These skewered objects--these totems to commercial deities--are added proof that no city embraces the absurd with more innocent exuberance than Los Angeles.
