San Gabriel Valley : SHOT DOWN

This arcade is not welcomed in Arcadia.

The City Council voted 3 to 1 Tuesday against opening a laser-tag facility on Huntington Drive, saying the giant building “is not compatible” with the rest of the commercial buildings in that area, said City Manager Bill Kelly.

Compatibility was what the prospective developer had in mind when he proposed building the arcade in a city that is home to one high school, two junior high schools and 15 elementary schools, said a representative for the Denver-based company, Laser Storm.

But Kelly said the council hopes to attract a business that “will cause a lot of foot traffic” in the downtown area.

“People who will go to the laser arcade would go specifically for that and not walk around and shop at other stores [in that area],” he said.
