Westside : WESTWOOD PROJECT
About 150 people turned out for a meeting to discuss a proposed project that would bring a supermarket, a drugstore, shops, restaurants, movie theaters, parking and housing to Westwood Village.
The meeting Tuesday was called by Los Angeles Councilman Mike Feuer, who invited the developer, Ira Smedra of Village Center Westwood L.P., and people who are involved with the project.
Other planned uses for the 226,000 square feet of retail space include a dry cleaner, a beauty supply shop and stores that sell clothes, home furnishings, music and toys.
Some Westwood residents who attended the meeting said they were concerned about the traffic that the complex would attract to the village, even though Westwood has not been drawing as many visitors as the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica and other pedestrian-friendly shopping areas.
Feuer told the crowd that he will call another community meeting and hold a series of formal public hearings to hammer out details of the plan.
