After 32 years with the Fountain Valley School District, Supt. Robert G. Sampica will retire in June.
Sampica, who announced his pending retirement at a recent school board meeting, said, “I need to step aside and smell the roses.”
In March, Sampica will turn 65. After 38 years in education, he said, he wants to relax and perhaps take up golf.
Sampica started with the district in July 1964 as a teacher. Since then, he has held a number of positions, including principal and deputy superintendent. He has been the district’s top administrator for two years.
A Tustin resident who grew up in Santa Ana, Sampica said that what he will miss most in retirement is regular contact with teachers, administrative staff and parents.
“This has been my whole life for 32 years,” he said. “I’ll miss all my friends.”
