Hospital Can Handle Forensic Mentally Ill

Share

Camarillo State Hospital is a world-renowned psychiatric hospital and research program. The hospital has saved lives and improved the quality of life for multitudes of clients. In addition, this hospital has prevented hundreds of clients from becoming homeless or criminals.

A proposal by Supervisor John Flynn has lots of merit. And many of us support it. Under that proposal, the hospital will have mentally ill clients and forensic mentally ill clients, with sufficient security safeguards. There would be no hard criminals. The state has about 15,000 to 18,000 such forensic clients, which can fill up this facility in the course of time. Also, it is estimated this population will grow fast with present laws. We urge our local representatives to support and work to keep this hospital open.
