BEARING UP: Patrons and employees at the Wild Thyme restaurant in Burbank are chipping in to help save a wild grizzly and her two cubs. . . . The bears had been bounced from zoo to zoo after being found near Yellowstone Park. A zoo near Big Bear had volunteered to take the animals if $55,000 could be raised to build them a habitat, and Wild Thyme’s Scott Blum said the restaurant raised $400 toward the larger goal, which has almost been reached. The bears were to be killed March 1 if the money was not found. . . . “It was overwhelming to me that the solution to handling the problem with these animals is just destroying them,” Blum said.

HELPING KIDS: Sun Valley businessman Rubin Brown has pledged $12 million to the new Children’s Hospital at UCLA (B1). It’s the facility’s biggest gift so far and will be used to treat neurological disorders. . . . Brown is making the donation from the proceeds of the sale of his company, Excel Electric.

BAT OVERTIME: The Caped Crusader will be working nights and weekends in Burbank during the filming of the upcoming Warner Bros. film “Batman and Robin.” Actor George Clooney, who is set to play the dark hero in the fourth installment of the movie series (F1), also works for Warner on the NBC show “E.R.” In order to juggle both, Clooney will do the movie during time off from TV.
