Denali Park Reservations Open

Up in Alaska, meanwhile, summer reservations for campsites and tour bus seats at Denali Park, the state’s most popular national park, open Monday.

Park officials say they have increased the number of sites and seats available for advance reservation from 33% to 40%. The reservation system was inaugurated in 1995 to reduce the wait for bus service into Denali, the way most people see the park since much of it is closed to private vehicles.

The remaining bus seats and camp sites will be set aside for visitors who arrive without reservations. Park officials say that such campers may have to wait up to two days during peak season.

Almost 90,000 people went to Denali last year to camp and sightsee along the park’s 85-mile road. Adult fees for bus tours start at $12. Reservations will be taken from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Call (800) 622-7275.
