Riordan to Push for Funds in Capital
Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan was scheduled to arrive early this morning in Washington, D.C., where he will lobby for the Alameda Corridor and for funding for anti-gang efforts and a summer job program.
Riordan’s press office said the mayor will iron out issues pertaining to the Alameda Corridor, a planned multi-city, major rail and trucking transportation link between Los Angeles and its booming harbor; try to get $5 million in federal funds to operate a countywide anti-gangs group; and ask congressional Republicans to restore funding they deleted for a longtime summer jobs program for disadvantaged youths.
The mayor will give a 15-minute interview on CNBC’s “Chris Mathews Show” before heading back west on a red-eye flight.
