The plot thickened: NASA communicated with the escaped satellite-on-a-cord and discovered it had a dead computer and an empty gas tank. Officials at Kennedy Space Center said they were uncertain whether the satellite problems and the snapping of the 12-mile copper, nylon and Teflon cord were connected.
