1977-78--In first full professional season, has 70 goals and 112 assists in 64 regular-season games and six goals and 20 assists in 13 playoff games for Sault Ste. Marie Greyhouds of the Ontario Hockey league. Named league rookie of the year.
1977-78--Had 43 goals and 61 assists in 72 regular-seasons games for Edmonton Oilers and named World Hockey Assn. rookie of the year.
1979-80--In second season with Edmonton, the Oilers’ first in the NHL, ties for league lead with 137 points and wins Hart Trophy as NHL MVP. Wins the award eight seasons in a row and nine times in a 10-year span.
1981-82--Set record for goals in a season with 92. Became first player to score more than 200 points in a season (212)
1983-84--Ties his own record with 10 hat tricks in season. Edmonton wins Stanley Cup. Oilers win championship four times in five seasons.
1988--Traded to Kings along with Marty McSorley and Mike Krushelnyski for Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, three first-round draft picks and cash.
1989-90--Became NHL’s all-time leading scorer.
1992-93--Missed first 39 games of season with herniated disc. Led NHL in playoff scoring with 40 points in leading Kings to Stanley Cup finals.
1994--Scored 802nd goal, breaking Gordie Howe’s NHL record.
1995--Scored career point, 2,500, also a record.
Feb. 27, 1996--Traded to St. Louis Blues for centers Roman Vopat and Patrice Tardif, left wing Craig Johnson and a 1997 first-round draft choice.
