Firm Gives Schools Free Internet Access

Thanks to a local computer business, schools in Moorpark are on the verge of being “wired.”

Camarillo-based VZ Net will give each of Moorpark’s nine schools a single free account with unlimited access to the Internet, which electronically links thousands of computers from educational, government, business and nonprofit institutions around the world.

The typical cost for the service would have been $25 per month for each account.

Moorpark High School and Chaparral Middle School are the only schools in the city that currently have access to the Internet, Moorpark School Board member Clint Harper said.

The new accounts will likely be set up in the schools’ libraries, Harper said. Each school will have use of high-speed modems for quick transmission and downloading of information on the Internet, he said.
