Smith Environmental Technologies Corp.: The Newport Beach provider of engineering, construction and hazardous-waste remediation services reported a net loss of $1 million, or 18 cents a share, for the first fiscal quarter, which included an extraordinary charge of $1.3 million in connection with the refinancing of its senior credit facility during October. The company had a profit of $781,000, or 13 cents a share, for the corresponding period a year ago. Revenue for the quarter ended Dec. 31 was up 33%, to $46.8 million from $35.2 million. The company attributed most of the revenue gain to the acquisition of Riedel Environmental Services Inc. in November 1994.
