High School District Names New Chief
The Santa Paula Union High School District board has named a new superintendent, an educator with 28 years of experience as a teacher, coach, principal and administrator.
William Brand, 52, who is assistant superintendent of education services in the Escondido Union High School District, will take over for retiring Supt. Robert Fisher on July 1.
“I think the district has made an outstanding choice,” Fisher said.
Brand served six years as a teacher and coach and seven years as an administrator in the Whittier Union High School District. He was principal at Royal Oak High School in Covina for three years and at Trabuco Hills High School in Mission Viejo for nine. He has held his current job in Escondido since 1993.
“He is very strong in grant writing,” said Fisher, who has known Brand for five years. “He is also very good at developing partnerships with the community.”
Fisher, who is retiring for health reasons, said one of the biggest challenges in the 1,360-student district is the successful integration of technology in the classroom.
