Studio City : Park Director’s Fate Remains Undecided

The city will decide within a couple of weeks if popular Studio City park director Jon Klay will remain at his current post, Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Department General Manager Jackie Tatum said Thursday.

The decision has been delayed, Tatum said, “because I want to make sure we look at everything thoroughly.” Department workers are gathering information “of a personnel nature” that will help Tatum make a decision, she said.

According to Tatum, department managers will also explain to her why they decided in January to switch Klay of the Studio City Recreation Center and the director of Stonehurst Recreation Center in Sun Valley.

Park users, who said that Klay had created an important sense of community at the park, circulated a petition to keep him in Studio City. Spurred by park users, Councilman Mike Feuer discussed the issue with Tatum, who agreed to reconsider Klay’s transfer. The parks department originally said it would decide by Feb. 9.

Tatum said Klay will stay on at the park pending her decision.
