For their efforts in assisting immigrants and training child-care providers, two San Fernando Valley nonprofit organizations were awarded California Community Foundation Grants this week.
The North Hollywood-based Child Care Resource Center received a $36,000 grant for its human services activities. The grant will contribute to the staffing of the center’s Resource Van and Library Program, which provides one-on-one training to child-care providers.
Pacoima’s Valley Organized in Community efforts received a $25,000 grant over two years for civic affairs work. VOICE works to expand citizenship and the leadership training of about 6,000 immigrants in low-income areas of the Valley.
Ten groups in all were selected from about 200 funding proposals to receive California Community Foundation grants. The foundation gives grants quarterly to nonprofit arts, civic, health and environmental groups responding to critical needs facing California. It has an endowment of about $200 million. This quarter, the foundation awarded $219,000.
