The city’s new automated phone information system will begin operation next week.

The system, called FullerFone, will be connected to a menu of more than 200 recorded messages with information on topics ranging from the municipal airport to zoning ordinances.

The 24-hour system will allow callers to get applications and permit forms by fax, city officials said.

To use FullerFone, which starts Monday, callers must have touch-tone telephones. The number is (714) 738-3348.

City Council members, who approved the system last year, estimate that it will save the city about $130,000 over the next five years by reducing staffing.

“Progress dictates that we move forward with the electronic age,” Councilman Peter Godfrey said last year.
