Apple Reportedly to Phase Out eWorld: The computer maker will close its online service by the end of the month, the company said in a memo to companies that provide information for eWorld, the Dow Jones News Service reported. A spokeswoman for Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple Computer Inc. said she is not aware of the memo. But Dow Jones reported that the memo said, “Apple has made the decision not to move eWorld to an Internet-based service but rather to discontinue the eWorld online service and greatly expand Apple’s presence on the [World Wide] Web.” eWorld was launched in 1994 but has never had more than 150,000 subscribers.
