Calabasas : District OKs Raises for Classified Workers

Share

The Las Virgenes Unified School District has approved a new, three-year contract with classified employees that provides 6% to 8% pay raises the first year and ties future raises to increases in either enrollment or state aid.

“I think we got an excellent contract,” said Audrey Meyers, co-president of the Las Virgenes Classified Assn., which represents 350 nonteaching, non-management employees.

The contract, approved this week by the Board of Education, will cost the district an additional $225,000 over three years, officials said.

The union had sought 8% raises for about 275 employees and 20% raises for about 75 others whose salaries would have been upgraded. As a compromise, officials said, raises for most employees will range from 6% to 8% in the first year, and 10 employees who are office managers at elementary and middle schools will be reclassified at higher pay scales.

In the final two years of the contract, officials said, any increases in employees’ pay or benefits would hinge on increases in state aid or enrollment.

This spring, the district is scheduled to enter into negotiations with its teachers.
