A three-time killer was convicted Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court of murdering the first female U.S. Secret Service agent to die in the line of duty.

Andre Alexander, 44, who already was serving a sentence of life in prison for a 1978 triple killing, was convicted of the June 4, 1980, slaying of Agent Julie Cross.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in Cross’ slaying.

The 26-year-old agent was killed by two shotgun blasts, ambushed while working a stakeout near Los Angeles International Airport.

Alexander was arrested for Cross’ slaying in 1992--two years after his conviction for the 1978 killings.

While investigating the 1978 slayings, Det. Richard “Buck” Henry of the Los Angeles Police Department noticed a strong resemblance between a composite drawing of Cross’ killer and Alexander. Henry and Alexander had attended Venice High School together.
