IT’S ONLY FITTING

Is your throw giving you the slip?

Slipcovers, a way to update a look or camouflage a dated sofa, always seem to wiggle lose, no matter how well you tuck them into the crevices of your couch.

Now, Sure Fit, the nation’s largest furniture cover manufacturer, has created an elasticized slipcover, fitted for snugness.

The one-piece slipcover has a self-enclosing, elasticized pocket for the seat cushions. Pull the cover over your sofa, enclose the seat cushions in the pocket and tuck the excess into the crevices of the couch.

The slipcovers (under $200) are designed to fit furnishings with high or low arms. They come in three sizes--chair, love seat and sofa--and a bevy of styles and machine-washable fabrics, such as cotton damask, matelasse, cotton twill, tapestry, corduroy, and seersucker. The slipcovers are available at Target and Strouds.

Sunny Side Up

Bring a few rays into your room with the Il Sole table by Nuovo Melodrom, a leading dealer of affordable, contemporary furniture in the SoHo district of New York City.

The table, part of the Collezione 95 collection designed by store owner Wolfgang Meyer-Raessler, comes in two sizes.

The small version ($190) is 22 inches high with a 20-inch diameter top. The larger table ($240) is 42 inches high with a 22-inch diameter top.

Ugly Contest

It could be perched in your family room. It might be tucked away in your spare bedroom or even out in the garage.

Wherever it is, get it out and enter it in Strouds’ ugly couch contest. First prize is a $1,000 shopping spree at Strouds.

The contest runs through April 15.

“So many people have old furniture in their homes,” said Liana Toscanini, director of marketing at Sure Fit, the contest sponsor. “They don’t want to part with it if it’s structurally sound or it it has sentimental value.”

There is no cost to enter. Entry forms are at Strouds.
