ENTERTAINMENT AWARDS: “Braveheart” and “Dead Man Walking” are among 1995 movies nominated as the “most inspiring” by judges for the annual Movieguide awards dinner to be held Wednesday night at the Universal Hilton Hotel.

Sponsored by the Christian Film & Television Commission--parent of Movieguide, an evangelical magazine--this year’s prizes will add special $25,000 Templeton awards for the film and television programs judged most inspiring.

Other movie nominees are “Cry, the Beloved Country,” “First Knight” and “Les Miserables.” Four CBS television programs were nominated--”The Christmas Box,” “Christy,” “Picket Fences,” “Kathy Lee: Home for Christmas” and “Touched by an Angel.” TNT’s “Joseph” is also a nominee.

Ted Baehr, the Atlanta publisher of the magazine, will also give a report on trends in the entertainment industry as viewed from an evangelical perspective.

ARCHBISHOP TALK: Anglican Archbishop Livingstone Mpalani-Nkoyoyo of Uganda will discuss church work in his 6-million-member province in Africa at 7 p.m. Sunday at Prince of Peace Episcopal Church, 5700 Rudnick Ave., Woodland Hills. (818) 346-6968.

BIBLICAL WOMEN: Tammi Schneider, assistant professor of the Old Testament at Claremont Graduate School, will talk about Sarah and Hagar in old and new interpretations of the biblical figures, who are important in Jewish, Christian, Muslim and feminist histories, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Valley Beth Shalom, 15739 Ventura Blvd., Encino.

The two-hour lecture is the first of three Wednesday-night talks this month on “Women in the Bible and Beyond.” The fee for the course is $25. (818) 788-6000.

CHINESE CHURCH: The English-, Cantonese- and Mandarin-speaking congregations within the Chinese Christian Alliance Church, 18827 Roscoe Blvd., Northridge, will hold a joint 10 a.m. service Sunday to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its ministry in the San Fernando Valley.

The congregations moved into a new, $1.3-million building in 1992 and plan to add eight more classrooms. Combined average attendance at services of the three congregations is nearly 400 people, a spokeswoman said.
