Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell, Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, Perry Farrell, Cypress Hill and Ruby are all providing new songs for the soundtrack to “The Cable Guy,” the upcoming film starring Jim Carrey and Ben Stiller, with an album due May 16. The Farrell track is expected to be a version of Lou Reed’s “Satellite of Love.” . . .

Liz Phair has recorded a new song, “Rocket Boy,” for the soundtrack of “Stealing Beauty,” the Bernardo Bertolucci film starring Liv Tyler and Jeremy Irons. Mazzy Star and the Cocteau Twins also have new songs in the film, which will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. A soundtrack album is due May 28. . . .

Nellee Hooper and Flood--not Brian Eno, as previously reported--are producing the new U2 album in Dublin. Hooper is also scoring the film “Romeo and Juliet” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. . . . Suzanne Vega, who has a new song on the soundtrack for the upcoming film “Cats and Dogs,” is finishing a new album, due this summer. . . .

Beating aspiring metal singer Pat Boone to the punch, Tiny Tim has done a version of “Stairway to Heaven” as part of an album he’s done with the Texas band Brave Combo (hot off a Grammy polka nomination). Other songs on the album, due March 19, include the Beatles’ “Girl” (the title track) and “Hey Jude.” . . .
