So, When Is the Baby Boom, Then?

Share

Re “The Age of Denial” (Feb. 9): So when was the baby boom? There are no official dates, but sociologists usually say from 1946 through 1964 when our fertility rates, (births per 1,000 women aged 15-44) were well over 100. Both before and after those dates, the fertility rates were well below 100 for a number of years. Statisticians often refer to the phenomenon as “the pig in the python” as the boomers age and move through life!
