CARACAS, Venezuela —
At least 14 prisoners were killed and 22 injured during a riot in a Venezuelan jail Thursday, authorities said.
Fighting among inmates, some using guns, broke out early in the morning at La Pica jail in Maturin.
A local official said the situation was brought under control in the afternoon. He said the riot was sparked by a battle between rival gangs, a frequent occurrence in Venezuela’s jails.
