World IN BRIEF : GERMANY : Thousands of Turks Clash With Police

Thousands of Turks, prevented from traveling to a rally in observance of the Kurdish New Year, clashed with police in several northern German cities. Police in the northwestern city of Dortmund arrested 1,300 Turks who proceeded with the rally despite a ban by the city. Elsewhere in northern Germany, there were angry confrontations as police tried to prevent Kurds from other cities and neighboring countries from reaching Dortmund.
