Leaving a Home

“A Moving End to an L.A. Story That Defied Stereotype” (March 9) touched me at a time that I am addressing the same issue, the eventuality of selling a lifelong home.
Although neighborhoods such as Bleakwood Avenue are unusual, they do exist. Another such neighborhood is Maple Street in Burbank. I know of at least eight families who date back to the 1940s and 1950s who are still living here and many others who have moved away but keep in touch. Three of those neighbors still live next to each other- my mother, now bed-ridden, and her neighbor on each side, the only next- door neighbors she has ever had. It is notable that a former Maple Street playmate of mine, now 50, when expressing his best wishes to my mother, noted that, “we’re like family here on Maple Street.”
