Colin Service Faces $1.5-Million Fine: Colin Service Systems Inc. has been hit by the Immigration and Naturalization Service with the largest proposed fine ever for allegedly hiring illegal foreign workers. The Justice Department said the INS had proposed penalties against the janitorial services company for knowingly hiring workers in the U.S. illegally and continuing to employ them after notification by immigration authorities. The alleged violations involve more than 1,000 violations of a federal employer-verification law. White Plains, N.Y.-based Colin, which also operates under the name Colin Cares Inc., vehemently denied the allegations, saying “We intend to defend ourselves aggressively and look forward to the opportunity to vindicate ourselves.”
