Robbery Triggers Asthma Attack

A 38-year-old postal clerk was so badly traumatized by a robbery almost three weeks ago that she is still unable to return to work, postal officials said Thursday.

The woman, of Lancaster, is an asthmatic who suffered a severe choking attack when the post office was held up at gunpoint March 2, said Pamela Prince, a postal service spokeswoman. Although not hospitalized, the clerk has been unable to return to work ever since, Prince said.

About 1:30 p.m., a lone man in his late 20s walked into the post office in the 7600 block of Winnetka Avenue, holding a chrome-plated semiautomatic handgun, and demanded money, Prince said.

The postal service will not reveal how much money the man stole, but is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to his arrest and conviction, Prince said.

Several customers were in the post office at the time, but no other injuries occurred during the robbery.

Employees traumatized by workplace crimes are offered counseling services, Prince said.
