Easy Money
Automated teller machines (ATMs) have become a must in the need-it-now 1990s. But, if not careful, ATM users may become targets of crime.
ATM Safety Tips
* Use ATMs that are well-lighted; park in well-lighted area
* Before stopping, survey area for loiterers
* Put checks, deposit slips together while sitting inside locked car
* Have someone with you if using ATM at night
* Keep car keys in hand
* Have card ready
* Cancel transaction and leave if you sense trouble
* At drive-up ATM, keep passenger window closed and doors locked
* Be aware of others around you
* Never write down access code
* Return to car before counting cash
* Take receipt from ATM
* If lights at or around ATM aren’t working, do not use machine; report problems to bank’s 24-hour customer service operators
ATM Robberies: Most occur at night between the hours of 8 p.m. and midnight.
