NOT GUILTY: O.J. Simpson has withdrawn a copyright infringement lawsuit against an Encino man who sold souvenirs of the so-called “trial of the century.” . . . Jamie DeMatoff says he made $20,000 selling shirts proclaiming Simpson’s innocence but is so upset over the legal threat that he’ll sell only “guilty” shirts during the Hall of Famer’s upcoming civil trial.
SOLD OUT: In just 25 days, the Class-A Lancaster JetHawks take to the field to play ball against the Visalia Oaks. Tickets for the team’s first game sold out in 2 1/2 hours and sales for the remainder of the season have been “pretty brisk,” says spokesman Dan Hubbard. . . . Ticket information: (805) 726-5400.
BUCHANAN VISITS: Bob Dole may have sewn up the party’s nomination, but GOP hopeful Pat Buchanan vowed to press on Thursday during a visit to Southern California (B1). “This is a cause that is larger than Pat Buchanan. . . . It will one day triumph, I guarantee you,” Buchanan told supporters at a Burbank rally. . . . Above, Buchanan is interviewed on Glendale radio station KIEV-AM (870).
MRS. DOLE IN TOWN: While Buchanan was stumping in the Valley, his rival’s wife was not far away. Elizabeth Hanford Dole visited Galpin Motors in North Hills on Thursday night to attend a meeting of the San Fernando Valley Christian Coalition (B1). . . . “You need to elect Bob Dole so that he can carry out Bill Clinton’s broken promises,” she said.
TRANSFER WOES: After five straight losses, senior outfielder Frank Casaccia transferred from Van Nuys High to Reseda, a move suggested by his mother and not the losses, he says (C10). . . . At least he can play. Pitcher Matt Sagoian, who transferred from Chaminade to Calabasas, will be benched for the season. The reason: Southern Section officials ruled him ineligible to play after he left Chaminade for disciplinary reasons (C10).
