Trainer, Two Others Suspended for Rest of Santa Anita Meeting

Trainer Clifford Sise and two of his employees have been suspended for the rest of the Santa Anita meet. A syringe was found in Sise’s barn last month. Others suspended after a hearing by the stewards were Scott Hansen, Sise’s foreman, and Jose Ramirez, one of the trainer’s grooms.

A track veterinarian said that he saw Ramirez giving a horse an injection of Lasix. Only licensed veterinarians are supposed to give it to horses. Darrell Vienna, an attorney representing Sise, said, “While what was done was wrong, it was not evil and it wasn’t done with the intention of influencing the outcome of a race.”
