Worrell Says All Team Needs Is Confidence

Closer Todd Worrell says the Dodgers have a strong chance to reach the World Series as soon as they believe in themselves.

“I think we’ve got the guns and the horses,” Worrell said. “Now, we just have to start believing we are as good as Atlanta and can beat them. If there’s any doubt, it’s not going to happen.”

Worrell said this might be the finest bullpen he has been part of in his 11-year career.

“It’s not just the stopper dominating and getting us a lot of saves,” said Worrell, who saved his first game of the spring Thursday in the Dodgers’ 3-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles at Vero Beach, Fla. “It’s having everybody contributing. And we have that.”

--Outfielder Rick Parker’s fate is undecided.

--Pitcher Mike Harkey will be going to Albuquerque, pitcher Narcisco Elvira to Monterrey, Mexico.

--The Dodgers still haven’t decided whether to open the season with outfielder Roger Cedeno on the bench or send him to Albuquerque for more playing time.

Right fielder Raul Mondesi was unable to play Thursday because of an inflamed right knee, and is expected to be out until at least Saturday. . . . Reliever Joe Jacobsen was returned from the Minnesota Twins for $25,000. . . . Strange statistic of the spring: Jose Offerman has made only one error for the Kansas City Royals; Dodger shortstop Greg Gagne already has made five errors.
