APPOINTMENT: Msgr. Carl Bell, currently pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hollywood, will succeed retiring Msgr. Cyril Navin of St. Cyril of Jerusalem Catholic Church in Encino.

INSPIRATIONAL TALK: Tyler Wilkinson, a Utah athlete whose promising career was halted by a car accident that left him a quadriplegic, will speak at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1101 N. PANEL DISCUSSION: “What My Faith Tradition Tells Me About Who Is Responsible for the Poor” will be the topic of a panel discussion 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Temple Beth Hillel, 12326 Riverside Drive, Valley Village. Rabbi Jim Kaufman will host the event sponsored by the San Fernando Valley Interfaith Council and serve on the panel. Other scheduled speakers include Father Constantine Valantasis of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Northridge, representing the Greek Orthodox faith; Bishop Joseph E. Morris of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, San Fernando Region, representing the Mormon faith; and the Rev. RACISM CONNECTION: An evening of theater, art, video and discussion focusing on racism and prejudice experienced by the Japanese American and Jewish American communities will be held Wednesday at the Bernard Milken Jewish Community Campus, 22622 Vanowen St., West Hills. Doors open at 6 p.m. with a performance of “Visas and Virtue: A One-Act Play Based on the True Story of Chiune Sugihara” at 7 p.m. There will also be a screening of footage shot by Japanese Americans incarcerated in internment camps, an exhibition of Holocaust art and a panel discussion. The event is sponsored by the Japanese American National Museum, the Jewish Community Relations Committee of the Jewish Federation Valley Alliance and the Anti-Defamation League. SECOND-NIGHT SEDERS: Reservations are due Monday for a second-night Seder celebrating Passover planned for April 4 at Temple Beth Torah, 16651 Rinaldi St., Granada Hills. The event is open to the public and is designed to welcome individuals and families who may not have other family members here to celebrate Passover with and for those who would enjoy participating in a traditional second-night Seder.
