The Cutting Edge : Readers React

Share

We received hundreds of e-mail messages (and a far smaller number of letters, faxes and phone calls) in response to last week’s premiere issue. We’re happy to report that the overwhelming majority of them were positive.

There were a number of complaints from Apple Macintosh owners who felt their machine got short shrift, and many readers pointed out that the address for the Census Bureau Web site should have been https://www.census.gov.

We also had a number of good suggestions for future coverage. As the section evolves, we will keep a close eye on readers’ ideas, suggestions and criticisms in evaluating whether we’re on the right track.

Sometimes we’ll also use this space to develop a discussion with readers on particular issues. Together with the The Times’ World Wide Web site, which launches on April 8, we hope to build an on-going conversation about a wide range of technology topics.

Here are excerpts from some of the e-mail we received. When you send mail to Cutting.Edge@latimes.com or to an individual writer, please indicate whether you intend the message for possible publication. And we’ll always try to answer the mail. Thanks again for the good feedback.
